hi everybody. welcome to the balancing act.thanks for stopping by. i'm julie moran. and i'm olga villaverde. you know, so muchgood stuff on the menu from a tasty coleslaw dish to foods infused with pumpkin.i love pumpkin. i love it.i can't wait for this, and we'll also tell you about nutritional supplements. plus, findingfaith at a university.

medi weight loss reviews

medi weight loss reviews, hmmm. and julie, don't forget the travel tip.oh my gosh! oh yeah, how can i forget that. we're always on the move, and it all startsright now. (music).you know, we're all familiar with the dreaded word plateau when it comes to our weight lossjourney. our first guests tell olga, perhaps

it's time for a little tweaking.alright, let's say you're following a healthy eating and fitness plan, but yet the numberson the scale aren't dropping, the inches aren't budging. what's going on, you ask. you mayneed to look inside. our guests have some insiders information to share. they are robbyfender, founder and ceo of the nutritional supplement company, yoli, and jenifer furness,a yoli independent member and customer. good morning.good morning. thanks for being here.alright, let me start with you. so what happens? you know, you're trying and trying. you'reon a diet, you're going to the gym. nothing. yeah, well i'll you after 20 years of beinga part of the weight loss industry and health

and nutrition, here's what i've learned. dietsdo not work. really?right. it must be a lifestyle program. and i know you did a lifestyle program becauseyou lost how many pounds? 31 pounds and 28.25 inches.oh my gosh! and we have the proof in the pudding. you have some before and afters. let's takethose. look at that dramatic change.wow. yes.tell me about this. at that time, i was a 41-year-old woman workinga full-time job, chasing kids, and very frustrated. i was carrying around, still, an extra 35pounds of what i called "baby weight" for about 10 years. i was just ready for a change.i started and i lost the 31 pounds and 28.25

inches, but the biggest thing for me was 8.75inches just in my waist. now, i had had both my babies via c-section, and i had had thismental philosophy of "oh my goodness, i'm never going to have a waistline again."not so. and not true. and so the better body systemtaught me a lifestyle where i could actually make this go away.alright. so fill in the gaps for me, here, robby. what is this?alright, you start with the transformation kit. what you need to know is this, when peoplefirst hear that they're going to lose 7 - 15 pounds in seven days, they actually are skeptical, andi don't blame them. but here's what you need to know. our bodies are not designedto hold on to weight. the food that we're

eating today, quite frankly, are empty foods.they do nothing. we're all on carb overload and it's making us acidic. and when you'reacidic, your body is going to hold on to fat to protect itself. not only that, it has atough time absorbing nutrients that it needs. so, the first ingredient we're going to giveyou is our product called alkalete. alkalete is going to take you from an acidic body toan alkaline body. it is going to adjust the ph of your body. then, we're going to giveyou our passion product. passion is a proprietary blend called thermoburn, and when you takethat, it's going to kick start your metabolism. it's going to turn your body into a fat burningmachine. okay.the third product is pure. pure is a probiotic.

you've got to have good gut health. thereare so many women out there, and some men, that are having problems on a regular basisgoing. and you've got to fix that. how are you going to lose any weight, olga, if you'renot going to the bathroom. let's be honest. you have to be regular.yes. you have to be regular.mm-hmm. and the last piece, and the most important,is our yes. our yoli essential shake. the yoli essential shake is a whey protein thatis a non-denatured, non-gmo ingredient that we import all the way from new zealand. now,it's important to point this out. we use stevia and those yes shakes i was talking to youabout, they taste like a milkshake.

okay. i do have to ask. side effects here?yeah. the side effect is you're going to lose weight.(laughter). well, here's the proof right here.absolutely. you know, i can only imagine it's changedyour life. i'm sure you're a new woman. how do you feel today?yes. i feel amazing and one thing i just want people to know, olga, is just that when wedon't have to walk around frustrated in our 30s and our 40s or any age for that matter,we can be empowered through a lifestyle with a better body system and feel incredible.and you look incredible. thank you so much for your time. i do appreciate it. go girl!that's all i'm going to say. thank you so

much. and for more information on how to transformyour life physically, emotionally, and financially visit yoli.com. that's y-o-l-i dot com orour website, thebalancingact.com. (music).thanks, olga. coming up, a holistic approach to higher education. and later on, a new twiston a favorite side dish.stay with us. (music).(music). welcome back to the show. let's say you decidedthat this is the year that you work on your inner and your outer self. you might startwith a faith-based university. olga? (music).many of us promise to nurture ourselves more this new year. it seems we're always takingcare of others, and now it's time to treat

ourselves and stimulate our minds. one ofthe ways we can accomplish this is to perhaps change careers, try a new hobby, even returnto school which can open up a world of possibilities. truly it can. our guest says school is anexcellent choice, especially one with a holistic approach. meet dr. alayne thorpe, a dean atandrews university in berrien springs, michigan. good morning.good morning. you like the weather in south florida?i love the weather in south florida, but i left a beautiful beautiful campus, so i missthat. and i really want to talk about it becausei love this idea of not only nurturing our mind but also our body and our spirit. howdoes that happen there?

well, one of the things that we do, we reallybelieve that it's terrific for students to have access to information. knowledge is important, but knowledge is not the only thing. the mind is not the only thing that operates the humanbeing. human beings are also spirit and body, and we believe that all three of these things:mind, spirit, and body must work together for the students to really appreciate whatto do with knowledge. so, they don't just gather more fact, but they know what to dowith the fact. they know how to live their lives. they know how to be responsible people.and i want to talk more about that. but first, doctor, i was reading here you are dean atthe university's school of distance education, which i'd like clarification on that, andinternational partnerships. so, what is the

difference between these two and what exactlyare they? okay. so the school of distance educationand international partnerships is that school, andrews university, that brings together reallythe offering of online courses, which is a big thing nowadays. almost every universityis offering online courses, which makes access to information more available. it makes informationmore available to students everywhere no matter where they're located. but we're also theschool that is in charge of international partnerships for both international studentswho are coming on campus but also the more than 30 sites that we have around the world.so, andrews university is really a global university. we have a global outreach. wehave more than 5,700 students, about 4,000

of those students are studying on campus.and the rest study either online or off campus. and the campus, as you and i were talkinga few minutes before we started this segment, it really does have a different feel fromlots of campuses. so, i want to go back to that holistic approach because i see hereyou're operated by the seventh-day adventist church. so, how does all that tie togetherand make this campus just different? well, one of the things that's very importantto seventh-day adventist is the this idea of holism, that the body is something thatsupports the mind, that the mind is something that supports the spirit, and all of thesethings work together. and so at the heart of our university, you'll find one, at thefirst middle of our university you'll find

a beautiful church, pioneer memorial church, one of the most beautiful churches you could ever imagine. our university is also an arboretum.it's part of the national arboretum because we believe in the beauty of the environment,of making a difference for students, and we have a wonderful farm.a farm. a dairy farm. we grow vegetables. studentswork on growing vegetables and milk, and we provide those wonderful products to our community.now, i also noticed, you told me about a globe in the entrance.yes. what does that represent?when you come into andrews university, we have this beautiful sculpture which is basicallya globe. we believe that andrews university

provides an education for students from aroundthe world. we have students from 98 countries who come to university, but we also believethat it's important for the students in north america to have a sense of what the worldis around them because they're citizens of the world, too. they're not just going tospend the rest of their lives in the u.s. they're going to be working for companiesthat have contracts overseas, or they may even be working overseas themselves.and i know you're a faith-based university, but i do want to clarify that if you don'twant to be a member of the, it's called the seventh-day adventist church, you don't haveto if you want to attend the university. no, that's right. we have students from almostevery faith on our campus. we even have, we

have saudi students who are obviously practicingmuslims. we have students who we would like to think they believe something, but they'renot sure that they believe much of anything. so, we've actually run the gamut, and everyoneis welcome. but i love the fact that you're not only stimulatingthe mind, you're stimulating everything of the person's body and spirit. it kind of allcomes together when they leave there. yes. and one of the things we want studentsto do is recognize how important faith is, that even if they're not seventh-day adventist, faith plays an important role in their lives. it gives sort of a sense of purpose to them.okay. and a recognition that something, that thereare things that are more important than just

meeting their own needs.and i don't know if this has a purpose, but i have to ask, that little turtle.oh, (laugher). is there meaning behind that?well, the turtle, yeah, i guess you could say. i'm a graduate of the university of maryland.so, this is a little bit of a bow to the terrapins. but, also, reminds me because i did not havethe advantage of an adventist education. i was raised outside adventist education, outsidechristian education, and i recognized when i started teaching in a christian school whati was missing because when i talk to students on campus at andrews university, i can sharewhat i believe. i can share what is at the core of my foundation as a human being. wheni taught at the university of maryland, when

i was a student at the university of marylandand then became a graduate student and did some teaching, i couldn't do that. i couldonly teach the literature classes i was assigned to teach.amen to that. and for our viewers out there who'd like more information on the university?they can go to our website, andrews.edu. thank you so much. i look forward to maybeone day looking at that, the heart of the school, which is that church.oh, i wish you would. it's a beautiful beautiful church.thank you for your time, doctor. and for more information on how you can discover your future, visit andrews.edu or our website, thebalancingact.com. (music).alright, coming up, chef chris paul taking

noodles to another level.(music). (music).you've heard of seasonal dishes, you know, foods we serve only at certain times of theyear. well, here at the balancing act, we're about to take coleslaw off the seasonal dishlist, and that's great because it happens to be one of my favorites. love it! chef chrispaul is back in the kitchen with a yakisoba noodle cole slaw to die for. good morning.good morning. love coleslaw.awesome. i love coleslaw, too. i could eat it any time of the day, even at2 in the morning when i wake up and i have a little, oh, binging. i love coleslaw. so,show me the spin on this one.

well, we tweaked this up. a little cole slawmix, we're going to just add a little bit in here.okay. and i have a lot of the ingredients alreadyin here, but i'm just going to show you how easily and quick it is to just prepare it.a little bit of chinese noodles. i love these. yeah. you can't stop eatingthem. uh-huh. go ahead.a little bit of carrots. a little bit of raisins. mmm.that's the kind of weird part of it. a little sweetness.it really is good. fried onions. hello, crunch, texture. right?i'm loving this.

really good. cabbage, purple cabbage.makes it pretty. makes it pretty, yup. and a little bit ofcaramelized cashews. what?yeah. i like that!and of course mayonnaise. low-fat.low-fat. (laughter) why not?put a little bit of mayo in there and we're just going to mix that up. we also have thenoodles in there which really really make a big difference.so while you're mixing it up, what you do first, i'm assuming, is you do your yakisobanoodles in the microwave?

absolutely.okay. yup. absolutely.and we're using the chicken flavor today? yup. we're using the chicken.why so? the chicken blends really really good witha lot of these ingredients, and i love good coleslaw. you've got to have that mayonnaiseand the combination of the chicken just really tweaks it up.and i would have never thought of adding noodles to it.right. i know. that would be the last thing. alright, let me try. you're making me hungry.(laughter). oh, gosh. have you noticed i love to eat?oh, so good! so good. and anytime, like you

said, you could eat this any time of the day.refreshing. it is very refreshing.i'm talking with my mouth full. (laughter).something that i told my children never to do. oh, i love it. thank you! this is a greatidea. appreciate it, chef. thank you. awesome.i've got to swallow. and for more information on yakisoba noodles, just go to our website,thebalancingact.com. that's thebalancingact.com. this is great, refreshing, light.(music). now you know travel tips.when you're doing exercise, you know, running or walking, you need water to hydrate thebody. same thing goes for the car. we're talking

fluids and oils, you know, hydration for thecar. okay, so what are all these things? let's start from the bottom and rear of the car,the transmission differential. when you put the car in drive, the tranny gets you going.so, make sure the fluid levels are optimal. it's not like the oil, so you don't need tocheck it so often. have your mechanic check it once a year. same goes to the engine oil.the dipstick should be clearly marked or color coated, so know which dipstick you're pullingout. check levels. just pull out the dipstick, do a visual on it, wipe it once with a cloth, put it back in, and check it a second time. power steering fluid usually has a small plastictub with a cap. open it up and check it out. how about coolant? pretty important to keepyour car running cool, and in the winter is

also works as anti-freeze to keep your engineblock from cracking. make sure the car has not been running 30 minutes or longer andremove the cap off slowly. then, fill accordingly. and your windshield. gotta keep those fluidsfilled, too. so, look for the windshield wiper icon. pop the plastic top and pour. and ifyou're on the road and find yourself low on any important fluids, stop into a travel center, fill her up, and hydrate her, too. stay hydrated and your car will love you for it. don't forgetto drink your water because staying hydrated is good cars and people, too. bye.now you know travel tips sponsored by ta and petro stopping centers coast-to-coast. refuel.replenish. refresh. it's a new year. welcome to my kitchen. thisis quick bytes with me, chef ralph pagano.
